Susan Merli, RP, MACP
Reaching out for therapy can feel like a significant step, particularly when you are accustomed to managing things on your own.
I am a Registered Psychotherapist who works with adults and couples across Ontario. My approach to therapy is warm, collaborative, compassionate, and grounded in the belief that people have an inherent capacity for growth, healing, and meaningful change.
People often come to therapy because something in their lives no longer feels quite right. You may be experiencing anxiety, stress, relationship difficulties, grief, a life transition, challenges with self-worth or boundaries, or simply a sense that you have been carrying too much for too long. You may also be functioning very well on the outside while quietly recognizing that something needs your attention.
Therapy offers us a place to slow things down and become curious about what is happening beneath the surface.
My work is trauma-informed and integrative, with a strong foundation in person-centred therapy. Rather than approaching therapy with the assumption that I have the answers to your life, I see our work as a collaborative process. Together, we can explore the experiences, relationships, beliefs and patterns that have shaped you, while developing greater understanding of what you need now.
My therapeutic work may also draw upon evidence-informed approaches and specialized training in areas including EMDR, hypnotherapy, mindfulness and couples therapy. The approach we take will depend upon you, your goals and what feels most helpful in our work together.
For couples, I provide a compassionate and balanced space to better understand patterns of communication and connection, navigate conflict, and explore what each partner needs to feel heard, understood and emotionally safe within the relationship.
Most importantly, I believe the therapeutic relationship matters. You should feel respected, understood and able to bring your whole self into the room without needing to perform, impress, or have everything figured out.
Sometimes therapy begins during a particularly difficult season. At other times, people come simply because they want to understand themselves more deeply, navigate a transition with greater intention, or take care of their mental health before things become overwhelming.
Wherever you are beginning, we can start there.
